Discovery Church is a group of real people seeking to grow in our relationship with Christ and share his amazing love with others. We are a contemporary church with a worship team and with messages that come directly from the Bible. We believe that God wants a relationship with his followers and that he speaks to them on a regular basis through his Word. We believe God’s church is a place He designed where we celebrate life with each other and develop relationships that help us grow in our faith. We meet in a converted warehouse that has been built into a worship center with rooms for nursery, kid’s church, and youth. You can come as you are for our services and we welcome you to discover what God has for you.

OUR STORY

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Discovery Church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God fellowship.  Our beliefs are theologically conservative, Christian, and Pentecostal.  Although there is accountability and oversight with our fellowship, we are guided and directed by our pastor, board, and congregation.  The following are the basic doctrinal beliefs of Discovery Church:

THE BIBLE
The Bible (Scriptures) is inspired by God and written by humans under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. The Bible is for everyone and declares God’s design and plan for all humanity and is fully relevant for us today. (2 Timothy 3:15-17; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Peter 1:21)

GOD
We believe there is one true God revealed in three persons…Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is holy, all powerful, all knowing, and ever present.  It is in him that we truly exist.  He is the creator of heaven and earth and desires to redeem everyone. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 43:10,11; Matthew 28:19; Luke 3:22; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; John 14:16-17)

JESUS
The Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God.  He is completely human and divine at the same time. He lived a perfect life so he could be a substitution for us in satisfying God’s demands for perfection. He defeated death in his resurrection so that we could have life eternally.(Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-23; Matthew 3:17; Matthew 8:29; Matthew 14:33; Matthew 16:16; Matthew 28:5-6; Luke 22:70; Luke 24:46-47; John 1:1, John 1:14; John 10:30;  John 11:25-27; John 17:1-5; Acts 1:9; Acts 2:22-24; Acts 7:55-56; Romans 1:3-4; Romans 3:23-26; Romans 8:1-3; Romans 10:4; 1 Corinthians 8:6; 2 Corinthians 5:19-21; Galatians 4:4-5; Philippians 2:5-11; Colossians 1:15; Colossians 2:9; 1 Timothy 2:5-6; 1 Timothy 3:16)

HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead and resides in every believer guiding them into all truth and convicts them of their sin. He brings comfort and seeks to make us more like Christ.  All believers are entitled to the promise of the Father with the baptism in the Holy Spirit as commanded by Jesus Christ. This experience was normal in the early Christian Church and with it comes power for life and service in the work of the ministry.  As referenced throughout Acts and the Epistles the initial physical evidence of the baptism in the Holy Spirit is ‘speaking in tongues’ as experienced on the day of Pentecost. (Genesis 1:2; Psalms 51:11;  Psalms 139:7 ; Isaiah 61:1-3; Joel 2:28-32; Mark 1:10; Luke 1:35;  Luke 4:1; Luke 11:13; Luke 12:12; John 15:26; John 16:7-14; Acts 1:8; Acts 2:1-4;  Acts 13:2; Romans 8:9-11, Romans 14-16; 1 Corinthians 3:16; 1 Corinthians 12:4-10, Ephesians 1:13-14; 2 Peter 1:21; Revelation 22:17)

MAN
Man(kind) is made in the image of God and we are the supreme object of His creation. We were created to have fellowship with God but became separated from God through sinful disobedience. This disobedience ushered evil and death into the world (both physical and spiritual death).  As a result we cannot be restored to God through our own efforts. (Genesis 1:26,27; Genesis 2:17; Genesis 3:6; Psalms 8:3-6; 32:1-5; 51:5; Isaiah 6:5; Jeremiah 17:5; Acts 17:26-31; Romans5:12-19)

SALVATION
Everyone can have a restored relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Salvation occurs when a person places his/her faith in Jesus; his life, death, and resurrection as payment for our sin.  Placing our faith in Christ is accepting his offer of forgiveness for our sin. Salvation is a gift from God and it cannot be earned by our own efforts. (Luke 24:47; John 3:3; Romans 10:13-15; Galatians 2:20; 3:13; Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 2:11; Titus 3:5-7)

ETERNITY
We were created to exist forever. We will exist either eternally separated from God by our sin, or we will be eternally united with God through forgiveness and salvation in Christ. Those eternally separated from God will reside in hell and those united with God will reside with him in heaven.  Heaven and hell are places of eternal existence. (John 3:16, 36; Romans 6:23; 1 John 2:25; 5:11-13; Revelation 20:15)

CHURCH
The church is designed by God to be a community of believers in Christ committed to the teachings of the Bible and seeking to obey the commands of scripture by the power of the Holy Spirit.  It is the mission of the church to bring the good news of Christ to everyone in the world. The church works together in unity and love in order to glorify God. (Matthew 16:18-19; 18:15-20; Acts 2:41-47; 5:11-14; 13:1-3; 14:23; 16:5; 20:28; 1 Corinthians 7:17; 9:13-14; 12; Ephesians 1:22-23; 2:19-22; 3:10-12; 5:22-32; Colossians 1:18; 3:15; 1 Timothy 4:14; 1 Peter 5:1-4; Revelation 21:2-3)
